Depending who you ask there is speculation that Van Gogh may have been epileptic and that this painting may have been a representation of a type of hallucination seizure he had.
As an epileptic who has had hallucinogenic seizures I believe this theory. There's something familiar about this when I see it, something that makes me feel a connection.
